Healthcare Industry Workforce Partnership

Building the Workforce Together

The new Healthcare Industry Workforce Partnership represents a collaborative effort between the Maine Community College System’s Harold Alfond Center for the Advancement of Maine’s Workforce and more than 50 leaders representing 30 healthcare employers, industry associations, community colleges, and statewide education and workforce partners.  

 

Together, they are addressing Maine's healthcare workforce shortages through innovative, industry-led training programs that directly respond to entry-level talent needs in hospitals and outpatient care settings.    

 

The partnership established a steering committee and three action teams, with new or enhanced programs launching in 2026 in medical assisting, emergency medical technician, and English language and work-readiness training.

The Harold Alfond Center for the Advancement of Maine’s Workforce coordinates all short-term workforce training programs for Maine’s community colleges, working closely with business and industry leaders statewide. Launched in 2021, the Alfond Center has served over 60,000 Mainers.  A historic gift of $75.5 million from the Harold Alfond Foundation will enable the Center to train an additional 70,505 Mainers by 2030, significantly impacting Maine’s workforce and economy through strategic private and public partnerships.
